First walk a success for Women Walk Putnam County

2166631-S Wednesday, Aug. 20 marked the first morning walk for Women Walk Putnam County.The initial group of 19 women, plus Lori Lucas of Putnam County Hospital and Jennifer Cannon of the Purdue Extension Office of Putnam County, walked the trails of the DePauw Nature Park from 8-8:30 a.m.

The morning did not only provide some healthy exercise, organizers said, but also included fun talks and meeting new friends.

Women Walk Putnam County meets every Wednesday morning from 8-8:30 a.m. at various venues in Greencastle.

For more information on how to register, and to receive a calendar on the meeting spots, persons may contact Jennifer Cannon with the Purdue Extension Office of Putnam County at 653-8411.

The entire program is free of charge.

Women Walk Putnam County is a new program geared toward local women. The program includes weekly walks around several venues in Putnam County, where women are able to incorporate physical activity and have fun doing it.

Workshops will also be held monthly to inform participants on health tips and information, and monthly wellness check to see progress or keep participants’ health on track will be conducted. In efforts to maintain and upkeep participants’ weight loss, goals will be set and healthy challenges will be made as the program progresses.

The program will conclude with an award ceremony and keynote speakers.
