Released into the Friday afternoon breeze, pink breast cancer awareness balloons begin to drift away from dozens of survivors, family members and Putnam County Hospital staff members. The balloon release capped a full day of breast cancer prevention and education events at Putnam County Hospital. Whether bearing a name or personal message (below) or elegantly unadorned, the balloons mark a way for survivors and those left behind to honor the struggle of the one in eight women who will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime.
